On March 18, QBPC members from the home appliances industry held their first lunch meeting of 2025 in Shanghai.
The meeting focused on three themes: enhancing collaboration between government and enterprises, innovating legal practices, and boosting rights protection practices, while exploring new approaches to safeguard intellectual property in the home appliance sector. In terms of government-enterprise communication, the group planned to help member companies to engage in targeted discussions with designated customs authorities. The goal was to align with the development of "Smart Customs" to improve the interception rate of infringing products at the customs and to explore opportunities for cross-border collaborative protection. On the legal front, in order to address the headache of "Criminal Protection for Similar Trademark Goods" that had plagued the home appliance industry for years, the members would collaborate with legal experts to conduct comprehensive research on past cases, which would generate practical insights and recommendations. While discussing practices based on their recent experience, industry representatives listed the challenges in filing complaints as certain internet platforms had raised the thresholds for copyright infringement complaints. They also explored the potential of utilizing RFID and other "One item One code" traceability systems to enhance brand protection in the home appliance sector, taking into account current trends in the Internet of Things.
The meeting specifically included an interactive session for the potential member, during which member representatives introduced the functions, daily operations, and key activities of the QBPC to the potential member.
